Buffy Coat

Human Buffy coats are a rich source of leukocytes used in drug target discovery, analysis of immune responses, and biomarker identification and validation.

Derived from 500 mL of peripheral blood, buffy coats are manufactured by centrifuging blood at a low speed to remove platelet rich plasma and red blood cells. The remaining buffy coat layer is enriched for leukocytes/white blood cells, while still containing trace amounts of red cells and other blood components.

Buffy coats are collected in a sterile bag containing the anticoagulant sodium citrate, dextrose, and citric acid (CPD).
